Dr. Nelson grew up in Jackson, Michigan, and graduated from MSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. After working in Jackson and then Flint, she moved to the Carolinas for many years. She owned a practice in Asheville, North Carolina before relocating back to Michigan to be closer to her family. She has a cat named Indy and two dogs named Maeve and Nola. Nola is a special service dog—she detects gluten in food and drinks! In her free time, you won’t find her here unless she’s in her gardens. She loves to travel and takes photographs of wild animals all over the world. Her next travels will take her to Yellowstone this winter, Alaska and Canada for up close encounters with grizzly bears in fishing and mating season, Spain (her “second home”) for the holidays, and she will be hiking the Camino de Santiago for her 50th birthday. She loves ultrasound, surgery, emergency medicine, and exotics! Come say hi!
